Social Interaction can be sometimes baffling for people with autism. They might turn out to be effectively overwhelmed or frustrated when they try to develop and support friendships. Creating friendship can be irritating, frightening and confusing for the individual with autism. Unfortunately, many children with autism do not lay out friendships and keep on experiencing issues once they get into their teen years. Thus, kids on the range might be hesitant to frame friendships and make themselves away from social situations.

The most remarkable thing we can do is to get out and do things that require social cooperation. Just like other kid’s even children with autism benefit from having friends in their peer group. Kids with autism may not pick up social skills as intuitively, but that doesn’t mean they are incapable of learning social skills.

Here are some steps on how you can help children with autism to connect new friends:

Teaching Them Importance Of Friendship :

This may seems basic but it is good to tell them the importance of friendship after certain age so they can choose them wisely. Understanding dynamic ideas can be challenging for young kids, especially those with autism. Be precise when you can. Use clear, plain language.

Social Skills:

When it comes for developing friendships and keeping them it requires a wide range of abilities. The key is to figure out the types of things that unique child may need to learn and begin. At the point when you start to show these abilities it means quite a bit to offer them chances to rehearse with.

Make them understand how to be flexible some of the time.

  • Make them understand how to be flexible some of the time.
  • How to initiate conversation
  • Taking turns in conversation
  • Talk through possible social scenario

Common Interest:

Normal interests are significant variables in creating and maintaining with friends. It’s difficult to be friends with someone you share nothing practically speaking with. For e.g. If a child is into the art interest put her/him in art class where they can find a new group of same interest, if he/she is interested in science find youthful researchers bunch. Ensure that these groups have similar aged group peers so they are surrounded by age appropriate behaviour.

Practice Prior:

Children with autism need a little more time and repetition to gain new skill. Rehearsing with your kid can help them feel more comfortable with the process and can solve the problem whenever he/she enters to the real time. Practice various parts of making friends such as clarifying, raising some issues, responding to the questions, sharing toys or suggesting some activity. Make the child connect to siblings, neighbors and similar age kids.

Make Them Understand Body Language And Emotions:

Make some image cards that show various emotions on faces and body language then assist your child and make understand what emotions might look like. Once all the images are recognised by the child try recording someone acting on these emotions. Studying these kinds of emotions will help the child to pick up on the non verbal communication and recognise when the individual is angry, happy, sad or frustrated.

Have Fun:

Remember to praise your child and point out their positive behaviour. Encouraging your child to build his social skills through acknowledgment and praise will not only help them to build their social skills but also will help them to be confident enough. Support your child and make the process as fun and playful as possible.
